This visualization demonstrates how Yahoo wields a powerful personalization engine, C.O.R.E., to deliver engaging content to their viewers. By manipulating demographics the user is able to pull in sets of packaged stories and see what overlapping demos are served similar content on Yahoo.com. It was a challenge to work with the wide range of content to create a cohesive experience that allowed users to playfully stumble upon insights.

I jumped at the chance to work with Daniel Bachhuber and Andrew Spittle on their publishing plugin, EditFlow. The plugin makes it easy for groups to collaborate on content with custom statuses, comment fields, and a spectacular post calendar.

Gates Foundation: Malaria Resistance

First world nations’ lack of urgency to end malaria in developing countries is a major hurdle for The Gates Foundation. This tool shows the migration of the disease from Southeast Asia to Sub-Saharan Africa and South America as antimalarial drugs lose their effectiveness. Journalists and activists can then explore the five steps Gates is taking to stop the spread by 2050. This project was an unpublished concept.

I’ve followed their writing for Baseball Prospectus and Sports Illustrated and when The Baseball Show with Rany & Joe debuted, it quickly became one of my favorite pods.
